After seeing a move to St James’ Park collapse at the 11th hour back in January, it’s now being reported that Hamza Choudhury is eager to join Newcastle United.
This comes from the Northern Echo, who claim that the Leicester City talent is ‘ready to push’ for the loan move that never was earlier this year.
The report states that Newcastle’s summer business is on hold while we wait for a decision from Arsenal over Joe Willock, with Steve Bruce aware that he’ll only have one domestic loan deal to play with if the goalscoring midfielder return for the 2021/22 season.
That said, it seems we retain a strong interest in bringing Choudhury to Tyneside, as Scott Wilson states that NUFC officials are aware of the former England U21’s situation now he’s slipped down the pecking order under Brendan Rodgers.
The Foxes boss decided against sanctioning a January loan move in the end, but with him signing former Toon target Boubakary Soumare this summer, he no longer has a reason to stand in the 23-year-old’s way.
If Willock does arrive – handing us a box-to-box midfielder with an eye for goal – it would make sense for us to reignite our interest in Choudhury; a tough-tackler who could add some much needed steal to our engine room.
Saying that, would Leicester even sanction a loan deal if he’s got no future at the King Power Stadium? If not, do we have the funds required to sign him on a permanent deal?
Only time will tell, but one thing’s certain – we need to get moving in the transfer market now the new season’s less than three weeks away!
