Confirmed NUFC team vs Rotherham – ASM & 7 others out but Woodman, Ritchie & Gayle start

Following a 3-2 win over Doncaster Rovers last Friday, Newcastle take on Rotherham tonight in our third pre-season friendly of the summer.

The team news has arrived ahead of the 7pm kick off at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, seeing us line up as follows against the League One side:

STARTING 11: (5-3-2) – Woodman – Ritchie, Lascelles (c), Fernandez, Clark, Lewis – Hayden, S Longstaff, Fraser – Gayle, Wilson.

SUBS: Gillespie, Langley, Dummett, Bondswell, Schar, Watts, Krafth, Hendrick, Young, M Longstaff, J White, Murphy.

The following players are not involved in today’s game:

  • Allan Saint-Maximin (illness)
  • Martin Dubravka (injury)
  • Elliot Anderson (injury)
  • Joelinton (injury)
  • Jonjo Shelvey (injury)
  • Javier Manquillo (injury)
  • Karl Darlow (COVID-19)
  • Miguel Almiron (extended break after Copa America)

Saint-Maximin is believed to be missing with a bug, while Joelinton has failed to make the game – despite being spotted back in training.

Freddie Woodman also starts after coming out of isolation, while Schar and Krafth are back in the squad after returning from their breaks following Euro 2020.

Also good to see talented midfielder Joe White in the matchday squad, alongside fellow U23 stars Bondswell, Watts, Young and Langley.
