Premier League relegation odds released for 2021/22 season – NUFC one of nine contenders

Bookmakers are expecting another season of struggle for Newcastle United when the Premier League returns in a fortnight’s time – but they’re NOT backing us to go down.

Bet365 have us down at 11/4 to be relegated this season, deeming us the SIXTH most likely to be a Championship side come May next year.

The favourites to go down are Norwich (5/6), followed by fellow newly promoted sides Watford (1/1), and Brentford (11/10).

Bruce’s NUFC are also backed to finish above Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace (7/4) and Sean Dyche’s Burnley (5/2), with Southampton (4/1), Wolves (5/1) and Brighton (6/1) coming after ourselves as the three outsiders to go down.

Here’s how Bet365 have it with just two weeks to go until the new season kicks off:

  1. Norwich – 5/6
  2. Watford – 1/1
  3. Brentford – 11/10
  4. Crystal Palace – 7/4
  5. Burnley – 5/2
  6. Newcastle – 11/4
  7. Southampton – 4/1
  8. Wolves – 5/1
  9. Brighton – 6/1

Many pessimistic Toon fans predict a season of doom, with us currently the only EPL side yet to make a signing and the Saudi takeover suffering yet another setback.

Premier League survival is the only priority for Mike Ashley and the bookies’ predicted 15th-placed finish ensures that.

However, let’s not kid ourselves and see 15th as a reason to crack open the champagne and have a celebration – even if some would take that right now after yet another summer of neglect at St James’ Park.

Until new owners come in and invest in the club, mid-table mediocrity and the occasional decent result against the bigger sides is all we can cling onto as NUFC fans.

Don’t remember you saying this when Rafa was in charge…….

Perhaps because one was a world class manager who pushed for more, and the other lucky to have a PL job and happy to settle for whatever he’s given by Mike Ashley

Totally ridiculous article. More scaremongering from Nufcblog.

Fans are understandably concerned we’ll go down after no takeover / not one signing and this, if anything, is a reminder that the bookies still back us to stay up.

It’s scaremongering if you take it that way. In reality it’s saying there’s FIVE clubs more likely to go down than us (which is sadly quite reassuring for some fans).
