Bruce tells Sky Sports he’s expecting new signings & hopeful on Willock but still not happy

Steve Bruce is ‘confident’ he’ll have a couple of new signings before the month is out, remaining ‘hopeful’ we’ll re-sign Joe Willock despite the never-ending wait for a final decision.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Bruce accepted – yet again – that there may come a time where we have to move on from the Arsenal midfielder.

Elsewhere, the NUFC boss hit back at those claiming he’s making no effort to bring new players in, insisting that he’s ‘frustrated’ by our lack of transfer business so far this summer and not happy to see the club standing still.

Here’s what he’s had to say, as shared by Sky’s North-East correspondent Keith Downie:

“There will come a time when we have to move on. But I’m still hopeful.”

“There’s a misconception that I’m not trying to sign players.

“I wouldn’t be doing my job properly if I wasn’t trying to improve us.

“I’m not just happy standing still. It’s frustrating.”

There were some claims that Joe Willock was on his way to Newcastle this afternoon, however those rumours have been denied by talkSPORT, Lee Ryder and a host of other local reporters.

The wait goes on…

  1. Have we anyone at Newcastle with an ounce of business acumen. Adam Armstrong is up for sale and if the press is to be believed there are bids of between 15 & 20 million for him having justified his ability in the championship, I know it is not the premiership but one feels that he is pretty close to that standard and any GOOD coach could quickly bring him to the required standard. Also, Newcastle has got a 40% selling on refund, which makes everyone talk of amounts between £6 & £8 winding its way back into the ST James’ bank account. Why of why do the bean counters at Newcastle say if we offer £15.mill we only have to pay £9m to get him, now that is a bargain to anyone. Let us say he does not make the grade we could sell him for £15m next summer and still be quids in and just Imagine if he did make the grade? Mr Ashley is happy on all counts.

  2. Bruce hasnt improved us since the day he joined, most of the squad have gone backward only he would consider hendricks and shelvey as regular first team players. I am praying he gets sick of the stick he is going to receive and walks away, but there is no chance as he is a parasite who claims to have love for the club but then won’t leave when he is shown to be totally unable to string two decent results together. Thank goodness for graeme jones or we would be in the championship now

I’d offer £5m & Gayle on loan for as long as they want him. Would cover a decent amount of Armaz goals with £5m for another player in for them – or the owner can pocket the £5m if they want, really don’t care.

So you’re saying he’s achieved as much as Rafa with a weaker set of players?! – some praise ??

You sound like my missus. When I ask her why she bought something, it was half price. The fact we didn’t need it or have 2 already is irrelevant. It was cheap so she had to buy it.
It’s one thing having business acumen, it’s a different thing completely signing a player who will not make it in the Prem.
If he’s up for sale (and has been for a month) and has what it takes to make it at the highest level, he would be gone by now.
We don’t need another Dwight Gayle on the books.

Another “fan” who says thank god for Jones, but give Bruce no credit for bringing him in.
Hendricks was never a regular first team player only getting a game when injury or sickness dictated it. As for having a go at Shelvey I suppose you fall into the category of fans who claims he’s lazy and doesn’t try, even though the stats show otherwise.

  7. It’s no good Bruce saying that he is frustrated. Is supporters are frustrated and we cannot do anything about it. He is the ******* manager, he needs to force that ******* Ashley’s hand. It’s a disgrace the way he is treating our club. Not being able to sell is the most convenient smokescreen for him. Continue to reap the riches of being in the Premier league whilst not spending any money. We are the most pointless club. Can anyone argue otherwise?
