Agent claims Newcastle United have made move for South American midfielder – Report

Newcastle have ‘made an approach’ for Ederson, according to Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte.

No, not the Man City shot stopper, but the 22-year-old Corinthians midfielder who has previously been called up to Brazil’s U20 side.

The report claims that Corinthians received contact from an agent ‘in the past few days’ who claims to have an offer from St James’ Park.

It’s believed we are in the hunt for TWO central midfielders this summer, so any cut-price move for Ederson could certainly fit that bill, with him valued at £3.6m by Transfermarkt.com.

I can’t claim to be an expert on the player or the outlet that the story came from but, if you want my two cents worth, this doesn’t seem like a Steve Bruce signing.

While his better days may be ahead of him, Ederson is a relative unknown in the football world, and Bruce’s approach so far on Tyneside has been to sign British players that do not need time to settle into life in the North East of England.

This could be a load of rubbish from Brazil and one the likes of Lee Ryder throw cold water on, but if there’s any truth in this it seems to be a left-field recommendation from our recruitment team – not Bruce himself!
