Confirmed NUFC team vs Norwich – Wilson & Almiron return, Woodman starts & ASM on the bench

Following a 2-0 win over Burton Albion last Friday, Newcastle take on Norwich City in today’s final pre-season game before our Premier League season gets underway against West Ham a week tomorrow.

The team news has arrived ahead of the 2pm kick off at St James’ Park, seeing us line up as follows against the newly promoted side:

STARTING 11: (5-3-2) – Woodman – Murphy, Krafth, Fernandez, Clark, Ritchie – Hayden, S Longstaff, Almiron – Joelinton, Wilson.

SUBS: Gillespie, M Longstaff, Schar, Lascelles, Shelvey, Saint-Maximin, Gayle, Lewis, Hendrick, Manquillo, Fraser, Langley, Watts.

The following players are not involved in today’s game:

  • Martin Dubravka (injury)
  • Elliot Anderson (injury)
  • Karl Darlow (Only just returned to training after having COVID)

Great to see Wilson is fit enough to start – suggesting he should be fine for next weekend – and also a boost to see ASM back on the bench after missing our last two pre-season friendlies.

Another start for Woodman means he looks set to start against West Ham next Sunday, with Dubravka still out and Darlow failing to make today’s squad after only just returning to training following a bad bout of COVID.

Here’s how the visitors line up:

Norwich starting XI: Krul, Aarons, Omobamidele, Zimmerman, Gibson, Giannoulis, Rupp, Gilmour, Lees-Melou, Dowell, Idah.

Todd Cantwell is missing with an ankle injury, with Teemu Pukki on the bench for the Canaries.
