Allan Saint-Maximin has sent a brilliant tribute to Newcastle United fans, saying “I realise how much you love me” after being welcomed back to a Geordie roar at St James’ Park on Sunday.
After missing our previous three pre-season games against Rotherham, Burton and Burnley, the Frenchman returned to action in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Norwich, impressing in a second half cameo that saw us rip the Canaries to shreds.
Steve Bruce was also quizzed about his future after the game, insisting that he is “100%” staying on Tyneside after questions were raised over his silence on social media and absence through ‘illness’.
Reflecting on his return to action, here’s what he’s told Toon fans in a heartfelt message from the 24-year-old:
“Thanks for yesterday…
As soon as I stepped on the field you guys cheered me like never before, you guys are crazy, you’re amazing!
It’s at times like this that I realise how much you love me.
It’s a privilege, thank you.“
It was great to see ASM back on the pitch doing what he does best and an added bonus that this has been followed by some reassuring comments from both Steve Bruce and the player himself.
Let’s hope he can stay fit and with that take his game to the next level over the 2021/22 season – starting against West Ham next weekend!
