Sky Sports reveal why Joe Willock’s £25m move from Arsenal to Newcastle has been held up

Sky Sports are reporting that Joe Willock’s proposed move to Newcastle United has been delayed over personal terms.

Keith Downie states that there is still some distance between both parties when it comes to the contract we’re offering and the terms he’s demanding.

The Chronicle have reported that his representatives are looking for him to become one of the club’s highest earners, while The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath has stated that the length of his deal is the final sticking point.

As explained below, there’s believed to be no issues between Arsenal and Newcastle after a fee rising to £25m was agreed on Sunday night, with problems surrounding personal terms to blame for the ‘lack of progression’ over the past 72 hours.

Here’s what Downie – Sky Sports’ North East correspondent – has had to say about the delay, insisting our wage offer isn’t low:

Willock was pictured back in North London on Wednesday afternoon, with him featuring on Eddie Nketiah’s Instagram story from the Arsenal training ground.

Sky Sports presenter and Toon fan Pete Graves has also offered an update, saying it could be a ‘nervy few days’ for NUFC fans and Steve Bruce – who wants to see him sign in time for Sunday’s clash with West Ham:

If he’s to feature this weekend, he’ll have to sign by 12pm on Friday – so it’s about time we got a move on!

We could well lose out, wouldn’t that be handy and timely, nothing spent again!?

Like Man Utd with Varane you mean, or City with Kane?.

These things take time to iron out the finer details – not like your football manager ?

  3. Joe wants his own wheelie bin and paddling pool at the SDFC state of the art training ground –
Ashley thinks he’ll forget these unreasonable demands, when he’s offered a chunky Sports Direct mug as an incentive to sign.

  5. Aye, Ashley wants a 6 year contract to sell him on for $$$$$ if his bet comes to fruition. Also there maybe an issue on buy out clause and relegation clause (for Willock to leave). Cannot understand him wanting to play in another relegation season, unless a stepping stone to greater things, another club with ambition of course! Wonder why no other PL club put a in a bid. “Flash in the pan” comes to mind. Oh, well another 80K player which the Toon canna sell in the future.

    Penny pinching indeed!
If we are offering him 45K a week, which is double what he’s on, and he wants 90K, which is what is being touted, that penny pinching amounts to 11,700,000 over 5 years.

Perhaps you’d like to dip into your pocket and help out?
