Bruce eyeing THREE more signings after £25m Willock deal & hopes he’ll play v West Ham – Report

According to former Sky Sports reporter Graeme Bailey, Steve Bruce wants THREE more signings once Joe Willock’s £25m move to St James’ Park is confirmed.

The Arsenal midfielder’s arrival appears to be imminent, with a fee agreed between the two clubs and personal terms now settled, however it seems Bruce is eager to make several more signings.

In his latest ‘exclusive’ for 90min, Bailey states that two of the three deals the NUFC boss is eyeing are loans, with Willock’s arrival likely to dent his budget significantly.

That said, it seems another permanent deal may be possible, with reports in France claiming we’ve made bids for Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara and FC Midtjylland midfielder Jens Cajuste this week.

Here’s a snippet from Graeme Bailey’s piece, which also claims that we’re hopeful Willock will sign in time to feature against West Ham this weekend:

Steve Bruce has been anxious to bolster his squad, but the Willock deal will be the first arrival for the Magpies boss.

90min understands Bruce still wants to add another three players – likely two of those loans – to his arsenal before the end of the transfer window.

Newcastle hope to have Willock available to make his full debut against West Ham in their Premier League opener on Sunday.

With Willock due on Tyneside tonight and a medical booked in, we’ll have to hope it’s all done before the Premier League’s 12pm deadline on Friday – otherwise he’ll be ineligible for our EPL opener on Sunday.

No names are mentioned regarding the three players Bruce is keen to add after Willock, however it’s been well documented that another midfielder – ideally a combative ball-winner – and an athletic centre-back are at the top of our priority list.

Another forward is also needed, with Callum Wilson and Dwight Gayle the club’s only senior strikers, but it remains to be seen if we’ll sign another after summer exits for both Andy Carroll and Yoshinori Muto.

  1. Bids for other midfielders would have been purely back up incase Willock didn’t want to come.
Working to a timeline you need to keep irons in the fire right up to the last minute.
No point in waiting until 2 days before transfer deadline, Willock goes somewhere else then we go “Oh dear, it’s too late to do anything now!”
