According to ESPN Digital, Newcastle have reached an agreement to sign Santiago Muñoz.
I know what you’re thinking….and no, this is NOT the Santiago Muñez from the fictional film ‘Goal!’….this is an actual footballer who currently plays in Mexico!
The report claims that the 19-year-old forward – who currently plays for Mexican side Santos Laguna – is eyeing a move to Europe and is now closing in on a move to St James’ Park.
ESPN also state that we have struck a deal to sign the striker, but hope to announce a ‘full agreement’ in the ‘next few hours’ – suggesting this one is close to completion and completely out of the blue.
Saying that, his age and lack of experience means this would almost certainly be an addition to our U23 set up, seeing him replace recently departed strikers Yannick Toure and Elias Sorensen.
Munoz bagged three goals and three assists in Liga MX Clausura last season and has represented his country impressively at youth level, scoring eight goals in 16 games for Mexico’s U17 side.
Here’s him in action:

Never let it be said that the our management don’t have a sense of humour.
