Following a 4-2 defeat to West Ham Sunday, Newcastle travel to Aston Villa for our first away day of the new 2021/22 season.
The team news has arrived ahead of today’s 3pm kick off at Villa Park, seeing us line up as follows against Dean Smith’s side:
STARTING 11: (5-3-2) – Woodman – Murphy, Schar, Lascelles, Fernandez, Ritchie – Hayden, Willock, Almiron – Saint-Maximin, Wilson.
SUBS: Gillespie, Clark, Krafth, Lewis, Hendrick, S Longstaff, Fraser, Joelinton, Gayle.
So, Steve Bruce has made three changes, seeing Emil Krafth, Ciaran Clark and Jonjo Shelvey replaced by Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles and Joe Willock.
The following players are not involved in today’s game:
- Jonjo Shelvey – Misses out with yet another calf injury. No details yet on how long he could be missing for.
- Martin Dubravka – His foot has become infected following surgery, meaning he’s set to miss another ‘few weeks’.
- Karl Darlow – Still a while away from being fully fit according to Bruce, with Covid hitting him hard last month.
- Paul Dummett – Remains out with a calf problem, but is expected to feature against Burnley next week.
Here’s the Villa side we’ll be facing:
Howay the lads!
Didn’t realise we had two Wilsons.
