Andy Carroll tipped to land Premier League move as ex-Mag backs club to sign bargain Frenchman

Andy Carroll has been backed to join Burnley on a free transfer following his release at Newcastle United.

This is the view of former Mag Steve Howey, who believes the 6ft 4′ striker could be snapped up by Sean Dyche as the sort of wrecking ball option to replace Chris Wood or Ashley Barnes late on in games.

The ex-NUFC defender also believes a move for regularly linked Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara would make a lot of sense.

The France U21 star can play at centre back or as a central midfielder – two areas Steve Bruce has been looking to strengthen – and could be available on the cheap, with Ligue 1 sides not only suffering financially following the pandemic but the player also nearing the end of his contract.

Here’s what he told Transfer Tavern, believing Carroll could join Burnley and Kamara could be the latest French bargain we look to snap up:

Howey on Carroll:

“I think for some managers, like at Burnley.

With the football that they play, obviously they’ve got Barnes and Wood.

He’d be a great one to come in, just to sling on for the last 15 or 20 minutes.”

Howey on Kamara:

“He’s versatile and sometimes when you go abroad you can pick up a player for cheaper than in the Premier League.

“He could turn out to be an excellent signing.

We’ve seen when Newcastle brought in other French lads, like Yohan Cabaye, they turned out to be outstanding signings.

He could possibly be one of them.”
