‘Newcastle are interested’ – Sky reporter claims NUFC still looking to sign long-term target

According to transfer expert and Sky Italy’s Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle remain interested in bringing Ozan Kabak to St James’ Park.

The Turkish centre half spent the back end of last season filling in for a Liverpool side who were depleted by the absence of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, making nine league appearances for the Reds.

Since then, he’s returned to Schalke – who are looking to raise funds and free up some space on their wage bill following their shock relegation from the Bundesliga.

Romano – one of the most well-respected journalists in the game – claims that Serie A side Torino have bid €1.5million to sign Kablak on loan, an offer that has been swiftly knocked back by Schalke – who prefer a permanent deal.

He also claims that we remain interested in bringing the 21-year-old Turk to Tyneside, but have not made any official bid ‘yet’.

Kabak appears to be a long-term target of ours, with the BBC reporting back in January that he was all set to seal a loan move to St James’ Park before Liverpool hijacked our bid at the 11th hour.

This could be one to watch, providing Schalke soften their stance and agree to let him leave on loan.
