Steve Nickson has told Newcastle United to sign Colombian international – Report

According to The Chronicle, Steve Nickson – Newcastle’s head of recruitment – has encouraged the club to pursue a move for Brighton midfielder Steven Alzate.

Mark Douglas’ latest piece suggests the Colombian international is one of several South American targets our chief scout has put forward, however it seems several have fallen on deaf ears of late.

Although Steve Bruce may not be the man to press the final green light on deals, it’s The Chronicle’s understanding that most of our signings over the past 12 months have been from the NUFC boss himself.

As a result, the number of arrivals driven by our head of recruitment has come into question – and it seems his interest in Alzate is another that hasn’t been actioned by the club.

The 25-year-old is a versatile midfielder and started their 2-1 win over Burnley on the opening day, only to be named on the bench in Saturday night’s victory over Watford.

A potential loan deal that could be one to watch if we manage to move someone on in the coming week, or will Steve Bruce have other ideas in mind?

  1. Steve Nickson can’t be thought that much of as he was furloughed, so why would Ashley or anyone else listen to him?
