Newcastle submit ‘enquiry’ for French winger as club set €5m asking price – RMC Sport

According to reports in France, Newcastle have been showing interest in a cut-price move for Zulte Waregem winger Jean-Luc Dompe.

This comes from RMC Sport, who report that ourselves and Burnley have submitted enquiries about the 26-year-old’s availability after an impressive 2020/21 season in Belgium.

The former France U20 international bagged six goals and six assists in 16 starts in the Jupiler Pro League last term and has started the new season with two assists in four games.

RMC Sport have revealed that Middlesbrough have had a €2m bid ‘immediately’ rejected by Zulte Waregem, with the club informing Boro, Burnley and Newcastle that he will only leave if their €5m asking price – just over £4m – is met in the final few days of the transfer window.

Given Steve Bruce has talked up loan deals only and played down our chances of making any more permanent signings, this feels like a bit of a non starter.

Not only that, the NUFC boss seems in no rush to beef up his attacking options – despite Carroll, Muto and Atsu all leaving – with an athletic defender and midfield enforcer appearing to be higher up on his priority list.

A new name linked, however this is one to file under the dubious column, it seems.
