NUFC flop joins new club – I don’t know what’s worse, the ‘£20m clause’ or this photo…

Achraf Lazaar will forever be an enigma and one of the strangest signings we’ve seen at Newcastle.

Upon arriving at St James’ Park back in 2016, it’s believed Rafa Benitez convinced him to ignore interest from Fiorentina to sign on Tyneside instead.

However, it soon became clear that he wasn’t in the manager’s plans and went on to make just 10 appearances for the club – failing to play once in the Premier League.

After a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, under non other than Steve Bruce, and a couple of stints in Italy, he was finally released earlier this year.

Since then, he’s spent a few months at Watford – only to be released the summer they sealed promotion – and had a trial spell at Reading.

That must’ve been unsuccessful, however, as he’s just completed a free agent move to Portuguese side Portimonense.

Not a bad move given they’re currently 5th in the table, although it’s hard not to laugh at the unveiling pictures emerging from Portugal – seeing the former Toon full-back stood next to a club official who clearly couldn’t be there!

Amusingly, it’s also been reported that the Moroccan has a £20m release clause in his contract – so it’s safe to say that won’t be activated anytime soon!
