Journalist claims NUFC are ‘in talks’ with French CB – A non-starter unless demands change?

As ever, we’ve been linked with every name under the sun this summer, yet we approach deadline day with just one signing secured.

That said, there’s sometimes no smoke without fire, and one name doing the rounds over the past week has been Valencia centre back Mouctar Diakhaby, with a host of outlets crediting us with an interest in the big Frenchman.

He was first touted for a move to Tyneside back in June via Spanish publication AS, then French paper Foot Mercato reported last Thursday that we still retained a strong interest in the 24-year-old.

Now, La Liga journalist and ‘transfer expert’ Ekrem Konur claims we are ‘in talks’ over a potential move for the 6ft 3′ defender, naming Fenerbahce and Leicester as two others clubs in the mix.

The player is said to be eyeing a move to England, with Valencia prepared to let him go, however Konur states they are demanding €12m – which is surely a non-starter for us based on Bruce’s latest comments.

The NUFC boss has insisted we have ‘no money to spend’ and will be restricted to loan deals between now and 11pm tomorrow, meaning a loan with an option to buy could be the only way forward if our interest really is genuine.

This might be one to watch over the next 24 hours, but may rely on the Spaniards agreeing to a try before you buy.
