Newcastle considering £4m move for Belgium’s player of the year for 2020/21 – Report

Newcastle are considering a late move for Jack Hendry – the highly-rated centre back who was named the Belgian Pro League’s player of the season for 2020/21.

This comes from The Mail, who claim that ourselves, Southampton, Burnley and West Brom are all weighing up a cut-price deal for the 6ft 5′ defender.

Simon Jones reports that the 26-year-old could be available for just £4m, with new club Oostende considering selling for a quick profit – having paid £1.8m to turn his loan move from Celtic into a permanent one earlier this summer.

Hendry was part of Scotland’s side at EURO 2020 and has all the makings of a modern day centre back capable of stepping up to Premier League level.

Described in the piece as ‘quick, technically good and strong in the air’, he’s excelled in a back three over the past season, meaning he could fit into the current system deployed by Steve Bruce.

That said, the NUFC boss’ latest comments on potential signings suggest there isn’t any money to spend, meaning player sales or some extra cash released by Mike Ashley may be needed to make this happen.

He may fit the bill as a player, however this seems unlikely unless our ‘loan deals only’ stance suddenly changes.

  1. I’ve heard good things about this young Hendry lad. If he’s half as good as what I’ve heard then 4m is a steal. In any case there’s literally no way you could lose money on him in terms of value, and the likelihood is that he will at least double in value, if not be worth five times that in a couple of years. Of course it would make too much sense for us to go after him, I mean he’s over 25 so under Ashley’s model it’s no go except under exceptional circumstances like Wilson, it would seem.

  2. I’m not interested as it doesn’t matter what players we buy as we have no gameplan or tactics and a manager who has no clue how a game is playing out whilst the fans can see the other teams tactics and what is needed but Bruceless changes the game in the 90th minute . The bloke is an imbecile and we are relegated as long as he is here along with Cashley
