“There’s been progress” – Journalist claims NUFC now working on TWO signings before 11pm

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has just issued a promising update on the Toon transfer front, claiming Newcastle are now working on TWO deals ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline.

Having stated this morning that we look to be closed for business, the North-East reporter – believed to be a friend of Steve Bruce’s – says there’s been ‘progress’ in the past few hours.

He insists that there’s ‘no guarantees’ that the unnamed duo will arrive in time, but insists that ‘things have changed’ behind the scenes at St James’ Park – suggesting the club are ready to sanction a late signing or two.

Here’s what he’s had to say in a 5pm update via Twitter:

No names are mentioned, but it’s fair to assume one of the two players he refers to is Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury.

It was feared earlier today that any move for the 23-year-old was OFF, however both The Athletic and Sky Sports have since reported that we remain in talks with the Foxes over a potential loan deal.

Elsewhere, you’d like to think we are also in the market for another centre-back, with our ageing defence crying out for an injection of pace and athleticism.

We’ve left it late and will only have ourselves to blame if we don’t get a couple ‘over the line’, but let’s hope we have a few new faces through the door by 11pm.
