Newcastle now in talks with Chelsea & Tottenham over late loan deals – Report

Former Sky Sports reporter Graeme Bailey has revealed that Newcastle are in talks with Tottenham over a deadline day move for USA centre-back Cameron Cartver-Vickers.

The journalist also claims that we’ve made contact with Chelsea to ask about the availability of ‘more than one player’, boldly stating that he’d be ‘surprised’ if we don’t bring in a loan signing before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

He’s provided a positive update on our attempts to sign Hamza Choudhury, too, insisting we have NOT given up on the Leicester midfielder – despite morning reports suggesting the club had ‘pulled the plug’ on that proposed loan deal.

Here’s what he’s had to say on the Toon transfer front this afternoon:

The issue with any move for Carter-Vickers would be his contract situation at Spurs.

His current deal is due to expire next summer, yet we appear to be in the market for loan deals only – so Tottenham seem unlikely to let him go unless it’s a permanent move or loan with an obligation to buy inserted.

As for Chelsea, they have a host of young talents and squad players believed to be available on loan, so it’s easy to see why we may have been in touch.

Midfield duo Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be on the lookout for late moves, while centre-back duo Ethan Ampadu and Malang Sarr were also linked with potential moves to St James’ Park just a few weeks ago.
