National media release embarrassing assessment of NUFC’s transfer window – 20 clubs ranked

If you ever wanted to see just how hopelessly out of touch the National media are when it comes to Newcastle United, you need look no further.

The Daily Star have bizarrely ranked Newcastle as having had the NINTH-best transfer window in the Premier League this summer.

Steve Bruce recruited Joe Willock – a player who was already here on loan last time out – for £25million, alongside unknown Mexican youngster Santiago Munoz, an U23 signing that got social media talking due to his movie star namesake.

Laughably, the Daily Star claim the latter will “have fans smiling” – ignoring the fact we’ve failed to sign the centre-back, holding midfielder and striker our squad has been crying out for, while watching relegation rivals Norwich and Crystal Palace recruit a host of handy signings on deadline day.

We also shipped out a tonne of deadwood to take a huge chunk off our wage bill – as much as £200,000-per-week according to reports.

This should have freed up additional funds, yet we pleaded poverty as Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce hid behind the pandemic as a reason to justify our lack of spending.

The Daily Star placed us higher than Leeds, who signed their former star loanee Jack Harrison from Man City, as well as another 340million on Man Utd prospect Daniel James and Barcelona full-back Junior Firpo.

Everton, too, somehow fell behind us in the pecking order; Rafa Benitez’s shrewd transfer business failed to get acknowledged, which saw him sign former Leicester man Demarai Gray for just £1.5million alongside freebies Andros Townsend and Salomon Rondon.

The majority of Toon fans are in uproar today due to an underwhelming window, but let’s not kid ourselves and start sounding all surprised.

Mike Ashley has only spent big in 12 of the 14 summers since his arrival and neither of those seasons culminated in success. Steve McClaren got dealt the best hand by Ashley and he got us relegated…

Do those burns still sting when our absent owner contemplates reaching into his wallet?

The stark reality is that Newcase are only a couple of injuries away from being plunged into a real crisis. I know it, you know it, but unfortunately, nobody at the club seems to think the same.

  1. It’s like listening to Sky’s radio station TalkSport, they say Geordies are deluded, what do they expect for a Yo-Yo club, should be thanking Mr Ashley for saving them etc…
    All this with zero research….
