Newcastle lining up January bid for 6ft 4′ midfielder who failed to land summer move – Report

According to new reports, Newcastle are eyeing up a January move for Sheffield United star Sander Berge.

The Norwegian international was expected to leave the recently relegated Blades following their return to the Championship, however he’s ended up remaining at Brammall Lane.

Now, an ‘exclusive’ from Football League World claim ourselves and Rangers are taking a close look at the 6ft 4′ midfielder ahead of a potential bid in the new year.

The 23-year-old was seen as a real coup for former boss Chris Wilder when he completed a £20m move from KRC Genk in last year.

However, injury issues and a tough 2020/21 season at Sheffield United has seen his stock fall slightly, meaning he was unable to secure a move away from South Yorkshire this summer.

With our midfield sorely lacking in power, presence and someone who can carry the ball from deep, Sander Berge could be someone well worth looking at – especially when he may be available at a cut-price fee when the transfer window reopens.

There’ll be no shortage of interest if he becomes available, but this could be one to watch after we tried and failed to sign Hamza Choudhury on deadline day.
