Journalist claims £15m striker held talks with NUFC before sealing deadline day move

According to Graeme Bailey Newcastle were one of several Premier League clubs who held talks with Odsonne Edouard over the summer.

In the end, the former Celtic star completed a £15m move to Crystal Palace on deadline day – seeing him finally arrive in the Premier League after a series of outstanding seasons in the SPL.

Bailey – a former Sky Sports reporter now at 90 min – claims that ourselves, Everton, Arsenal and Leicester all ‘talked’ to the Frenchman during the transfer window, with the Daily Record reporting back in May that he was on our radar.

In the end, however, we opted against signing another striker; a controversial and potentially naive decision given Callum Wilson and Dwight Gayle are the only two out and out centre forwards on our books.

Edouard was probably out of our budget in the end, yet £15m for a 23-year-old who has bagged over 50 goals in the past two years seems like very good business.

Here’s what Bailey had to say back on deadline day, claiming that NUFC had shown interest over the summer:
