Ex-Mag sends exciting 5-word message to NUFC fans on “special player” Santiago Munoz

Former Toon defender Warren Barton has insisted that NUFC new boy Santiago Munoz “can play” following his deadline day move to Tyneside.

This comes after US writer Felipe Cardenas told The Athletic he is a “special player” who has the ability to become a “global superstar”.

Munoz signed on an 18-month loan deal and attracted attention for his namesake being the star character in the 2005 Hollywood movie Goal!, which depicted a Mexican prospect moving to Newcastle with the dream of becoming a Premier League star.

Some fans have called the deal a lousy PR stunt, but Barton – who spends his time as a pundit in the US these days – believes the signing is genuine, and that the forward has huge talent.

Here’s the promising message Barton sent to his Toon followers on Twitter, saying “he can play, don’t worry!”

After leaving Mexico behind and arriving in England as an inexperienced 19-year-old, let’s hope he can settle into life on Tyneside and make an immediate impact in our U23 set up.

With Wilson injured and no striker signed over the summer, you never know, he might get his first-team opportunity sooner than expected!
