Steve Bruce spotted watching duo in action this week – Two ones to watch over 2021/22?

According to The Chronicle, Steve Bruce has been keeping a very close eye on two U23 talents in recent weeks.

Lee Ryder reports that the NUFC boss was spotted watching our second string’s PL2 clash with Stoke City on Monday night, claiming he was there to watch Elliot Anderson and Joe White in particular.

Anderson actually scored in the match – and also smashed the crossbar with a wicked free-kick – however it was Stoke who came away 3-2 winners at Whitley Park.

The Chronicle claim that both Toon talents are ‘edging closer’ to being handed a big chance at senior level, appearing to be the two Bruce has wanted to take a close look at in 2021.

Anderson shone in the PL2 last season and was handed his debut in the cup in January this year, however a combination of injuries and Bruce’s reluctance to throw him in during a relegation battle meant he didn’t feature in any league games across 2020/21.

As for White, he shone in a couple of our pre-season fixtures over the summer and was named on the bench for our 4-1 defeat at Man Utd earlier this month.

The pair are attacking midfielders and local lads who will need loan moves sooner rather than later, with them appearing too good for U23 football but also unlikely to get regular Premier League game time ahead of the likes of Miguel Almiron or Ryan Fraser.
