Steve Bruce edging closer to exit with out of work manager keen to take his job – Report

According to fresh reports emerging from Italy, AC Milan legend Gennaro Gattuso is eyeing Steve Bruce’s job at Newcastle United.

This comes from Calciomercato, who claim that the former Napoli boss is on ‘pre-alert’ as it’s expected the current NUFC boss will lose his job soon.

The report states that Steve Bruce’s exit is ‘around the corner’, having started the new season with no wins in the league and an early cup exit.

A real pinch of salt is needed with this one, however this isn’t the first time Gattuso has been linked with a move to St James’ Park.

The fiery 43-year-old left his role at Napoli at the end of the 2020/21 season and almost took over at Fiorentina over the summer, only for talks to break down at the 11th hour.

He was also strongly linked with the Tottenham job back in July, however they ended up going for Nuno Esparito Santo – leaving the Italian out of work and looking for his next move a few months on.

Interestingly, Calciomercato – the outlet running today’s story – claims back in May that we’d shown interest in Gattuso, suggesting we’ve been long term admirers:

  1. Latest bit of
Bruce is going to work on the shortfalls (poor finishing) in training?
Should try working on his own shortfalls as a manager and resign!
The number of times the squad is going to work on things in training is mind boggling, yet nothing has changed!

  2. Olly – I appreciate you report everything that’s said, but to even suggest that Bruce is edging closer to the exit is complete bollocks and you know it.
Bruce is safe until at least Christmas, probably February and even then is only in trouble if he’s in the bottom 3 and losing touch with 17th position.
You have commented yourself that his brief is to “keep the club ticking over” – translation – keep us in the prem, and that’s it.
I can only imagine you’re feeling for a job with the Chronicle.
