Sky Sports: Saudis set to sack Steve Bruce – but he might not be leaving just yet

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie claims Steve Bruce will ‘almost certainly’ be sacked as Newcastle manager – however he could yet be in the dugout for next Sunday’s clash with Spurs.

The North-East reporter insists that the prospective new owners do not want to rush key decisions, despite fans being desperate for change after our dismal start to the new season.

Time is on our side – we are in the international break and don’t play until next Sunday – but with the Spurs game just 10 days away, it seems there is a chance Bruce remains in charge for the first game of the Saudi era:

There’s already been plenty of speculation as to who will take our club forward once the Saudi-backed deal is announced, with Bruce now a frightening ⅓ at the bookies to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.

Eddie Howe was favourite with the bookies to be our next manager just 24 hours ago, but recent events has seen former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte jump up to pole position in the race to be Toon boss, while Steve Gerrard and Frank Lampard also featuring.

Bruce’s position was under question prior to the takeover but reports in the Daily Express last night stated that he is already aware of his fate when the deal is passed in the coming hours.

Now, Sky Sports say that he will be replaced, but the new owners won’t make any knee-**** reactions from the offset:

  1. Finally! It’s almost unreal. I can’t wait to see NUFC being run like a proper club again. Supporters and ownership all pulling in the same direction together!
