The bookies favourites for the NUFC job as ‘outside whispers’ tip Frenchman to be appointed

Based on our new owners big ambitions and the resigned nature of Steve Bruce’s first interview since the takeover went through, it’s fair to say Newcastle United are on the lookout for a new manager.

The bookies have updated their odds after a crazy 48 hours at St James’ Park and a host of names have already been linked.

Sky Bet have former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte down as the current favourite at 3/1, however The Mail reported last night that the Saudi-backed consortium are keen on Brendan Rodgers – currently at Leicester City.

Elsewhere, North-East report Ross Gregory has revealed this morning that ‘outside whispers’ have backed former Dortmund boss Lucien Favre to land the job on Tyneside – an intriguing claim given he was heavily linked when a £300m deal looked imminent last year.

Others who feature on Sky Bets list of likely replacements include Steven Gerrard (7/2), Eddie Howe (9/2), Rafa Benitez (8/1) and Frank Lampard (9/1), although it feels like that ship may have sailed for a few of those.

Roberto Martinez (14/1) was asked about the job last night, however he wasn’t impressed by the journalist’s question just minutes after Belgium’s 3-2 defeat to France in the semi-final of the UEFA Nations League.

Here’s the bookies favourites as things stand:

  • Antonio Conte – 3/1
  • Steve Gerrard – 7/2
  • Eddie Howe – 9/2
  • Rafa Benitez – 8/1
  • Frank Lampard – 9/1
  • Brendan Rodgers – 10/1
  • Jose Mourinho – 11/1
  • Roberto Martinez – 14/1
  • Chris Wilder – 18/1
  • Lucien Favre – 20/1
  • Roberto Mancini – 20/1
  • Zinedine Zidane – 20/1
  • Graham Potter – 25/1
  • Paulo Fonseca – 25/1
  • Unai Emery – 25/1
  • Graeme Jones – 25/1

Others who feature further down the list include Diego Simeone, Erik Ten Haag, Gareth Southgate and Gennaro Gattuso, all priced at 33/1.

Who would you like to see the Saudis appoint if and when Steve Bruce is sacked?
