New favourite emerges for Newcastle United job after odds change overnight

Lucien Favre stormed into the lead to become Newcastle’s next manager, according to the latest odds on Sky Bet.

The Swiss boss, who last managed Borussia Dortmund, is priced at 11/4, with a decision expected to be made on Steve Bruce’s future this week.

Favre, 63, has also enjoyed spells at OGC Nice – where he signed Allan Saint-Maximin from Monaco in a deal worth £9m – along with Bundesliga sides Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin.

Most sources suggest that under-fire Bruce will be sacked by Amanda Staveley, meaning Graeme Jones will be our caretaker manager for Sunday’s clash with Spurs at St James’ Park – the first game of the Saudi era.

Antonio Conte – my personal dream choice – is second in line at 11/2, with conflicting reports emerging about whether he would want to manage a side that currently sit 19th in the Premier League.

Other options, according to the bookies, include Roberto Martinez (7/1) Steven Gerrard (7/1), Graham Potter (9/1), Brendan Rodgers (12/1) and Zinedine Zidane (14/1), as the consortium look to stamp their authority on a new era at St James’ Park.
