NUFC star sends message to new owners with stunning display on Tuesday night

It wasn’t long ago Fabian Schar was considered one of the most talented players at Newcastle United.

However, over the Steve Bruce era, the Swiss centre-back has often been out of the side, with no-nonsense defenders like Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett often ahead of him in the pecking order when fit.

After featuring in just two of our eight games in all competitions this season, he enjoyed a rare start for his country last night – and in doing so reminded Newcastle United just what he’s capable of.

The 29-year-old was named man of the match in their 4-0 win over Lithuania in World Cup qualifying, and it’s easy to see why.

Not only did he win 100% of his aerial duels, have the most touches on the pitch, make three key passes, create two big chances and complete 12 long balls, he bagged two assists – which is pretty unheard of from a centre-back.

The defender actually shared the tweet below on his personal Twitter account after the game – an interesting move when it ended with the line “Newcastle are you watching.”

His time on Tyneside may well come to an end when his contract expires next summer, but he has the ability to reignite his career at the club should the right manager for him replace Steve Bruce.

  1. It’s not surprising, name any player who has progressed under Bruce, he is totally inept.
