A few days after the Saudi takeover was complete, it was Toon trialist Isaac Westendorf who bagged the first goal of what promises to be an exciting new era on Tyneside.
After having a goal ruled out in his first appearance for the club – a 4-1 win over Middlesbrough at St James’ Park – the powerful 19-year-old got off the mark in Monday night’s 4-0 win over Birmingham, latching onto a Jonjo Shelvey through ball and finishing smartly.
The former Barking striker has impressed at Non-league level and showed his quality again just a few days later, bagging a goal and an assist in our U23’s 3-1 win over Newcastle Benfield on Wednesday night.
So, not only has be bagged two goals and set up another in two starts for the club, but fans in attendance have been impressed by his huge frame, brute power and deceptive pace for a player of his size.
Here’s what NUFC fan Lee Lawler (Newcastle fans TV) had to say after watching him in midweek:
With our U23’s travelling to Sunderland for the Tyne and Wear derby on Monday, it’ll be interesting to see if the big man can make it three goals in as many starts as he eyes a professional deal at St James’ Park!
Let’s hope he gets a chance – I’d rather see Isaac get his chance than see the wasters like Pogba

Nice start and looks impressive. Not often a player comes through from Non-League but could be worth a punt.
