Simon Jordan says two managers tipped for Toon job are ‘perennial failure’ & laughing stock

Simon Jordan has bizarrely mocked suggestions that Roberto Martinez or Unai Emery would be good candidates for the Newcastle job.

The pressure on Steve Bruce continues to mount following our 3-2 defeat to Spurs, and both have been named as ‘leading contenders’ for his job according to The Times’ Martin Hardy.

Toon fans have been labelled “unrealistic” for believing that elite, world-class managers like Antonio Conte would join the club, but these two are in the tier below and now being branded as not good enough.

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan believes current Belgium boss Martinez is a “perennial failure”, while claiming Emery was “laughed out of England”, despite beating Man Utd in the Europa League final last season.

This is what he said on talkSPORT this morning:

Martinez has a mixed managerial record but there are certainly a lot more positives to take than negatives.

He guided Everton to a 5th-placed finish, won the FA Cup with Wigan and has a background in managing some of the world’s elite players with Belgium.

People point towards his time as an international manager as a failure, but he was knocked out the World Cup by France and the Euros by Italy – the two eventual winners of both competitions.

Emery has established himself as a top European manager, with his time at Arsenal the only blemish on an otherwise stellar record.

Following Arsenal Wenger at The Gunners was always going to be a tough gig, especially as the club have since entered a state of freefall and look miles away from competing for major honours.

I would take either of these managers in a heartbeat… especially considering what we currently have in the dugout!

  1. Martinez would be my choice.
In International management you have to do the best with what you’ve got. If you are managing Belgium and your players aren’t playing well you can’t just go buy the latest Brazilian superstar striker, or French fullback.
Martinez and Jones – make it so!

  2. Why is he always picking on Newcastle shut up is it just an easy target I wish you just shut his mouth is he still in football apart from on the radio and now all the managers coming out the woodwork criticising the takeover makes me sick let’s face it whoever we get it’s better than Bruce my vote goes for Jose but I know he’s Roma
