Newcastle United closing in on new manager with trio set for 'final interviews' - Report
An intriguing update on the managerial situation at St James' Park has arrived from former Sky Sports reporter Graeme Bailey this afternoon.
It's been well documented that the new owners are reluctant to sack Steve Bruce until a replacement is ready to come in, and Bailey claims that we have now narrowed our search down to THREE candidates.
Writing for 90min, Bailey claims that Lucien Favre, Eddie Howe and Paulo Fonseca are the three names in the frame as things stand, stating the trio look set for 'final interviews' this week as they may one last push for the NUFC job.
All three are currently available and out of work. Favre left Dortmund in December last year, while Howe hasn't managed since leaving Bournemouth by mutual consent in August, 2020.
Fonseca - a 48-year-old Portuguese coach known for his attacking brand of football - is said to be 'hugely keen' on the job according to Bailey's piece, with him eyeing his first job in England after leaving Roma in May.
Both Favre and Fonseca were offered the Crystal Palace job over the summer, however both rejected approaches from Selhurst Park.
The latter landed an interview at Tottenham back in June, yet he's since revealed that a desire for more 'defensive football' denied him the chance.
