Newcastle eyeing Chelsea duo as new owners line up ‘attainable’ January targets – Report

Newcastle United are eyeing moves for Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to 90min.

The report states that we have identified the Chelsea duo as ‘attainable targets’ ahead of the January transfer window, claiming the club are lining up moves for Premier League players able to make an immediate impact to help keep us up.

It seems we won’t be the only club in the mix, with 90min stating that both Burnley and Leeds are also keen to sign Barkley in the new year.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, but has managed just 36 minutes of football so far this term after late cameos in the Premier League, Carabao Cup and Champions League.

Despite a difficult spell at Fulham across 2020/21, Loftus-Cheek has enjoyed a surprise run in the Chelsea side while Mason Mount has been out, starting in recent wins over Southampton and Brentford.

Barkley’s time at Stamford Bridge is clearly over, meaning he could be available at a cut-price fee, but Loftus-Cheek may yet have a future under Tuchel if recent game time is anything to go by.

Here’s a snippet from 90min’s piece:

Intermediaries have already reached out to Newcastle to offer Barkley’s services and 90min has been told that he features on a shortlist of attainable targets who the club believe could come in and help secure their Premier League future.

Chelsea teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek also features on that list, though it appears he has a brighter future in the capital after recently forcing his way into Tuchel’s side.

  1. PremAndUp:
Why do people assume that top EPL clubs are going to sell us anybody?
Will have to go abroad I think

Prem – I think some will to balance their own books & recruit their own improvements.

The likes of Barkley & RLC are players who are never going to play regular and I don’t imagine Tuchel sees them in his plans – but not many clubs could afford wages. There only option would be to run their contracts out and that’s worse business than selling to us I reckon.

Same goes for players like Lingard, van der beek and players at other bigger clubs.

All that said, I really hope we don’t sign Barkley. He didn’t do anything at Villa last season and I think his times about done.

  2. It would be interesting to see whether Magpies sustain their premier league status this season or they relegated !!!
