Ligue 1 winner suddenly the new bookies favourite for NUFC job after odds are slashed

Leonardo Jardim is the new bookies favourite for the vacant Newcastle United job, according to Sky Bet.

The former Monaco boss has moved from 66/1 to 7/2 on Thursday evening – a seismic shift, suggest some big money has gone on the 47-year-old to become Steve Bruce’s successor at St James’ Park.

Jardim is the joint favourite at the time of writing, with Swiss manager Lucien Favre also priced at 7/2 after overtaking Paulo Fonseca.

Interestingly, this is also the first time Fonseca has moved off top spot over the past week, with the ex-Roma coach now priced at 9/2.

See Sky Bet’s odds in full below, showing the top 10 candidates according to the bookies:

A ‘Saudi Sports News’ account claiming to have a Newcastle United exclusive stated that the Portuguese coach was set for the job at one stage on Thursday, however this series of tweets was soon deleted.

So, have fans just naively lumped money on Jardim, causing his odds to tumble on Sky Bet, or is there something in this latest link?

Jardim worked wonders alongside recently linked sporting director Luis Campos during his time at Monaco, guiding them to the Ligue 1 title and Champions League semi-final in 2017. He is also currently managing Saudi side Al Hilal.

  1. I have a feeling it doesn’t take much of a bet to move this market.

Watch as the board leak to friends just before the announcement and someone goes odds-on very quickly …
