How Saudi consortium’s search for a new manager could be impacted by Spurs

Quite where the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo leaves Spurs I don’t care. What seems pretty certain is that his exit could have potential ramifications for Newcastle United.

Spurs are clearly moving quickly, sacking a Manager that has actually got fifteen points in the Premier League and five wins. They appear to be going for Antonio Conte and might have a chance as Ole Gunnar Solksjaer seems to have bought himself more time.

Ironic in many ways that several pundits predicted a change in Manager at Old Trafford prior to that game between Spurs and Man Utd on Saturday night. They were right of course, but got the wrong man!

The bit that really matters, however, is that this may have vast repercussions for NUFC.

Could Spurs land our ‘dream’ target Antonio Conte? Could Nuno become an option for our new owners? Or, could Levy go back to Fonseca or Ten Hag – two names heavily linked with the Toon job in recent weeks.

I never ever thought Conte would come to Newcastle. If there was a chance it would have been in the summer once he knew we were in the Premier League. Even then I thought that was a slim chance as he’s got eyes on bigger jobs.

Whatever our money and ownership situation the manager’s job at NUFC is not an attractive proposition at the moment. It may and almost certainly will be somewhere down the line but right now I think it may be a poisoned chalice.

If Spurs don’t get Conte they might re-ignite their interest in Fonseca – who has intriguingly pulled out of an event he was due to speak at in Lisbon tomorrow.

He very, very nearly got the job in the summer and surely would be high on their wish list now as well. On that note, if any of the Saudis top targets could interest Tottenham, we need to move NOW before it’s too late.

My prediction is that whatever Manager is appointed at whatever Club it’ll happen at Spurs before it happens at NUFC. Right now, it’s my gut feeling that Graeme Jones will still be in charge when we go to Brighton for another defeat that will leave us further stranded.

Who knows, we may end up with Nuno and Spurs with a manager that was on our shortlist not so long ago!
