Aston Villa make surprise move for manager who’s been in talks over NUFC job – Report

The Mail are reporting that Aston Villa have made contact with Paulo Fonseca to sound out a potential move for the former Roma boss.

The 48-year-old was the bookies favourite for the Newcastle job for well over a week after a host of reports revealed that he’d held talks with the new owners on Tyneside.

It’s said that he could yet end up at Villa Park after four straight losses has left them ‘considering’ alternatives to under-fire boss Dean Smith.

Fonseca is believed to be keen to take over on Tyneside, however it’s since emerged that Unai Emery is closing in on the job, with The Mail naming Roberto Martinez as another contender who has held talks.

Perhaps we are preferring Premier League experience? After all, our perilous position in the table and vital run of upcoming fixtures means any new manager must be able to make an immediate impact.

The Portuguese coach is said to be have promised an attacking brand of football – something he was known for at Shakhtar and Roma – but it seems Villa have made their move just as our interest has stalled.
