Emery releases official statement – Confirms final decision after interest from “great club”

Unai Emery has confirmed he is staying at Villarreal, ending speculation linking him with the vacant managers job at St James’ Park.

It was widely reported yesterday that the 50-year-old was the new owner’s number one target and expected to be in the dugout for Saturday’s trip to Brighton.

However, Emery has released a statement of his own on Wednesday lunchtime, saying he is ‘grateful’ to have received interest from a ‘great club’ in Newcastle, but is ‘100% committed’ to Villarreal following talks with club president Fernando Roig.

Here’s what he’s had to say:

“No matter how much noise there was yesterday in another country, within the club there was transparency and loyalty with the Roig family and with my squad, which is maximum, and for me it is the most important thing.

Villarreal CF is my home and I am 100% committed.

Honestly, I am grateful for the interest of a great club, but even more grateful to be here and that is why I communicated to Fernando Roig my decision to want to continue being part of this project because of the commitment and respect that I perceive from the club and from my players, which is mutual and reciprocal.

“I want to thank the fans for the support they have always shown me.

On Sunday we have a very important game and I hope that together we can achieve victory. See you at the Estadio de la Cerámica.”

  1. I wish all this speculation and rumours would stop.
Keep it zipped until everything is signed sealed and delivered!
Too many leaks in every walk of life these days.
DOF first then the Coach makes sense to me, the incoming Coach will then know who he will be working with, or wether he can work with them, then make the decision.
