Report reveals what Toon trio told Amanda Staveley last night during Eddie Howe talks

A few hours before Unai Emery’s U-turn was confirmed in an official statement yesterday, Football Insider reported yesterday that the club had shifted their focus to Eddie Howe.

They reported on Wednesday lunchtime that the out of work Englishman was in ‘advanced talks’ with Amanda Staveley – and now claim he’s received a host of ringing endorsements from the NUFC dressing room.

According to Football Insider’s latest exclusive, ex-Bournemouth trio Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Matt Ritchie have all been in touch with Staveley over the past 24 hours, urging the club to appoint their former manager.

The piece states that he has ‘full dressing room backing’ ahead of his likely appointment, with it looking increasingly likely that he will land the job at St James’ Park.

Sky Sports confirmed earlier today that he held further talks with the club on Thursday morning, however it seems he’s facing a race against time to be in the dugout for Saturday’s trip to Brighton.

Howe has been out of work for over 15 months now, having left Bournemouth last year after they suffered relegation to the Championship after five seasons in the top flight.

He rejected a move to Celtic over the summer and was in the frame for the Crystal Palace job at one stage.

  1. Fraser shouldn’t be anywhere near that team, and notice Matt Ritchie not mentioned as he’d give a different answer.. I would never, never hire a manager because the players tell me too…..In Amanda we trust…

  2. WE DON’T WANT THE PLAYERS TO BE BEST MATES WITH THE MANAGER – **** it’s a holiday camp right now with Jones & Bruce’s Staff

WE NEED someone who can get these player’s working as a TEAM

This is a complete shambles on & now off the field – and just think what it’s going to be like getting another Manager to replace Howe in 3 months!!

    Ain’t a clue

  3. Go for a weird set up = Lampard and Terry

Terry would get a grip of the Defence and it could be a brilliant partnership

  5. Shambolic, thought we wanted a manager to save us from relegation not one who took his team down, then left them??

  6. Howe with a good DoF as well could be great for us, someone with the experience to not only help but ring in top players…Sounds like a plan?

  7. It’s Amanda we should be talking about not the host of new and useless managers we have been involved with , each with a different story or contract they can’t get outta.
Imean is Amanda gonna choose both manager and team ?
I would think we have more talented folks around that can take care of
    those matters

Lets get things straight, how much has she invested in the club, I’m talking bout money here, oh nowt you say, then what makes her so important to us. that she is involving herself in every deal that comes down the pike ?
puhleez ! tell her thanks for whatever you done done and bye, because we have professionals that take care of the actual rebuilding of the club

    and too many amateurs. OK!

  9. These new owners are not very impressive they are a bit like the old ones take to long to make a decision they might have loads of money but we are no further forward just look at spurs sack one manager and a new one in the next day then look at us still no manger after 2weeks they say great things in the future yes in the championship they need to get it sorted

I agree Terry and Lampard would be an interesting appointment for the reasons you state. Terry wants a crack at management can’t see Lampard wanting anything less?
Would a shared management role work and get rid of Jones?
    It would be a first!

  13. I read somewhere that Howe was a no-no cause his Prem win rate was 29%. Though I am a big Rafa fan his actual win rate for NUFC in the Prem only was slightly over 30%-Rafa was very good at making NUFC hard to beat and got a lot of draws plus making single figure goal differences. Howe was at Bournemouth for in total 10 years; took them through the divisions; 5 years in the Prem. I personally would take the chance with Fornseca but he doesn’t have any Prem experience-any manager taking over now has to accept being sacked if NUFC are relegated & most top managers would not accept that condition. Hence why like it or not Howe is the front runner.

  14. For God’s sake stop moaning and whining we’ve got the takeover we wanted Ashley has gone if any fan didn’t think there wouldn’t be bumbs in the road early in there regime was sadly mistaken so let them get on with it and have some trust and back it

  15. eddie howe did an amazing job at bournemouth in getting them from the lower divisions to the premier league and keeping the there for five seasons. bournemouth are a small club so any good players they had would be snapped up by the better known teams and they would have difficulty in replacing them and to my mind it was inevitable that they would be relegated sooner or later so to say eddie took them down is stretching it a bit. having said that i am not overly keen on taking over.

  16. John+Marshall said that all along about the job he did at Bournemouth I honestly think this is a sensible appointment for where we are we’re never going to get a conte Rodgers or the ajax coach

  17. Just heard Jones is hanging around and Fraser…

..made it impossible for the Manager!

Yes, with the new owner’s I expected a Rollercoaster – just didn’t think it would start by going down for years!
