Alan Shearer explains why Eddie Howe’s imminent arrival is a “very wise move” – Video

Alan Shearer believes Newcastle’s decision to appoint Eddie Howe would be “a very wise move” if and when the deal goes ahead.

Howe was at the Amex stadium last night to watch oir 1-1 draw with Brighton, where he was sat with Amanda Staveley and alongside his number two Jason Tindall.

Talks are ongoing as the two parties try to overcome a stumbling block in the deal, but Howe has reportedly agreed a two-and-a-half year deal to become our new manager, with The Mail’s Craig Hope revealing on Sunday afternoon that his arrival looks set to be announced on Monday.

Club legend Shearer thinks it would be a fantastic appointment, pointing towards the former Bournemouth boss’s experience of working in the Premier League.

Our record goalscorer also thinks Howe will come back energised after an 18-month hiatus away from the game.

This is what he said while speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live:

  1. Would have preferred Emery, ten Hag, Fonseca, or even Rodgers to Howe. But grateful they finally (maybe?) have a permanent manager in to get to work and get us out of the relegation zone.

With a solid system in place and January reinforcements on the way we should be safe (I hope) from the bottom 3 by the end of February.
