Amanda Staveley has revealed how the club were left “incredibly impressed” by new boss Eddie Howe during their “rigorous” search for Steve Bruce’s replacement.
This comes after the 43-year-old was officially named our new head coach this afternoon, signing a deal until the summer of 2024.
She’s praised his achievements at Bournemouth – where he took them from EFL strugglers to 9th in the Premier League – but also explains how his passion, ‘dynamic coaching’ and ‘clear ideas’ make him a ‘great fit’ for the club going forward.
Here’s her official reaction to Howe’s arrival (via NUFC.co.uk):
“We have been incredibly impressed by Eddie through what has been a rigorous recruitment process.
“As well as his obvious achievements with AFC Bournemouth, where he had a transformational impact, he is a passionate and dynamic coach who has clear ideas about taking this team and club forward.
“He is a great fit for what we are trying to build here.
“We are delighted to welcome Eddie and his staff to St. James’ Park and very much look forward to working together towards our collective ambitions.”
Staveley’s husband and fellow board member Mehrdad Ghodoussi has also reacted to Howe’s appointment, along with Jamie Reuben.
Here’s what both posted on social media in response to his arrival:
Well at long last let’s hope it does not take as long over transfers

Jones has to go ASAP – to let Howe do his job without any obstacles!
