Newcastle United owners hold talks with Michael Emenalo in Saudi Arabia – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are in talks to make Michael Emenalo our new director of football.

The ‘exclusive’ reveals that Chelsea’s former technical director is the new owner’s number one choice for the role, revealing that he travelled to Saudi Arabia just last week to meet with members of the consortium.

In what they describe as a ‘hugely ambitious’ move from the club, The Telegraph state that they hope to follow the appointment of Eddie Howe with Emenalo’s arrival, believing talks could ‘accelerate’ over the international break.

Interestingly, Matt Law’s piece also claims that he is a ‘big fan’ of Howe and ‘spoke positively’ about the former Bournemouth boss during talks with our new owners in Jeddah last week.

The 56-year-old was responsible for some outstanding work during his 10 years at Chelsea, with him not only bringin the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard to Stamford Bridge, but also revolutionising the club’s Academy system.

He also brought Mo Salah to English football and signed Cesar Azpilicueta for just £7m back in August 2012.

It’s said that Emenalo is now the frontrunner for the role, but there is ‘no timeline’ on a final decision as both parties plan to talk through a number of issues over the international break.

The Nigerian’s last role in football came with Monaco, however he left the Ligue 1 side by mutual consent in 2019 and has been out of work since.

  1. So he hasn’t actually been courted by the top clubs has he?
And how many people are we going to employ (like Howe) who’ve been out of the game for a couple of years?
Nice to see we’re keeping bang up to date with world football.

  2. Jones has to go ASAP – to let Howe do his job without any obstacles!

Plus the guy is simply deluded – and one can see it’s been his mastermind behind the shambles this season

I presume you haven’t seen what Emenalo did during his 10 years at Chelsea…
