The 66-second Eddie Howe clip that will excite Toon fans following his arrival at NUFC – Video

While delving through YouTube to learn more about Eddie Howe, I stumbled across a video from Monday Night Football exactly a year ago.

Howe, who left Bournemouth after the 2019/20 season, was making a guest appearance on the show to analyse Wolves’ home clash with Southampton.

His co-presenter that night was Sky Sports everpresent Jamie Carragher, who grilled Howe on the Cherries’ style of play the previous campaign.

Did he regret being too attack minded? Would he change his philosophy if he seeked a return to management?

All legitimate questions, and ones that become relevant for Toon fans who are wondering what Howe’s Newcastle might look like.

For older Newcastle fans that remember the Entertainers Era under Kevin Keegan, Howe’s words sounded familiar to those once echoed by our messianic former manager.

Take a listen for yourself and you will see exactly why Amanda Staveley was reportedly blown away by Howe during his interview:

“We prided ourselves on our attacking play.

“Our best form of defence was to attack hard, and to entertain.

“I don’t think you can be something you’re not.

My mindset is to win the game first, not to try and not lose it.”

A far cry away from the defeatist, repetitive drivel that we have had to endure under Steve Bruce for the last two years.

One thing this man is, above all else, is a trier.

You get the sense that our preparation before a game will be thorough, and the players won’t be given three days off on the rare occasion we do pick up three points.

A silver-tongued tactician that won’t reward failure. Yes, he doesn’t have the elite European pedigree of Unai Emery, or a sexy continental name like Paulo Fonseca, but he is as good as we can realistically attract right now and I’m behind him 100%.

Eddie Howe’s black-and-white army!

  1. “A far cry away from the defeatist, repetitive drivel that we have had to endure under Steve Bruce for the last two years.“

    1. It’s a blatant lie to include that in a quote purportedly from Eddie Howe.
Howe did not say that, you added that and you should be a big enough boy to take responsibility for it.

    2. The phrase you were scrambling for is “a far cry from”. There is no “away” in it.

    3. That “defeatist, repetitive drivel that we have had to endure under Steve Bruce for the last two years” was exactly the same defeatist, repetitive drivel that we have had to endure under Rafa Benitez for the two years before that.
At least Bruce had a go at a more attacking style, whereas Rafa just settled for telling the world that our team was **** and it would be a miracle if he could keep them up.
