Newcastle now the favourites to sign Chelsea midfielder on loan with option to buy – Report

According to new reports, Newcastle United are ‘leading the chase’ to sign Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley.

This comes via an ‘exclusive’ from TEAMtalk, who claim that ourselves, Leeds and Everton are all showing interest ahead of the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old was handed a rare start in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley – his first for the club since August 2019 – however it’s said that Thomas Tuchel is debating whether or not he’ll be allowed to leave in January.

Barkley is said to be determined to get back into Gareth Southgate’s England plans ahead of next year’s World Cup in Qatar, knowing his game time will need to increase if he’s to stand any chance.

Jessie Lingard’s outstanding spell at West Ham last season could be a source of inspiration, with a move away seeming ideal for a player who has seen his career stall in recent years.

TEAMtalk claim that a loan spell that includes an option to buy Barkley next summer is of interest – a deal that could suit Chelsea, should they decide to let him go, given he has just over 18 months left remaining on his contract.

He was recently described as an “unbelievable” player by current Mag Callum Wilson, but would you take Barkley if he became available in January?

  1. 500 times better than anything we have at the minute.
Shelvey and others need shipping out, give them away, anything to get them off our books.
Reports, if to be believed, is that the majority of premiership clubs won’t sell to us, they want us to go down. It’s not going to happen ??
Also I expect if we do get these players we don’t pay over the odds for fringe players.

  2. I have to disagree with earlier comments. He was poor out on loan last season, is slow and on the lazy side and I’m sure we can do much better than him. Ramsay at Juve and apparently available would be far better. I’m sure he would love to follow in Gary Speeds footsteps and be part of a successful United side. Leadership material.

  3. Nope …he.s useless. Always moved on. Final ball usually dire. Yes, better than current lazy lot, but very average. Avoid like the plague.
