The Daily Mail are reporting that Newcastle United recently sent scouts to watch highly-rated forward Reyes Cleary.
The 17-year-old has been in stunning form for West Brom’s youth sides this season, bagging 14 goals in 12 games across U18 and U23 age groups.
He is yet to sign a professional contract with the Baggies – who are desperate to keep him – and is believed to have been watched by talent spotters at Newcastle, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Crystal Palace over the past month.
The Mail reveal that we had a scout watching him at Wolves over the weekend, stating that our new owners are keen to see the club snap up some of the best young talents in and around the Premier League 2.
As Simo Jones’ piece states, Cleary has been compared in style to a ‘young Romelu Lukaku’, being a big forward who is ‘quick, strong and has a goalscorer’s instinct.’
West Brom are currently 2nd in the Premier League 2 – Newcastle sit 9th – and have an excellent reputation for producing good young players through their Academy system.
