Saudi consortium 'agree terms' with top sporting director - Announcement 'imminent' - Report
Michael Emenalo has agreed to become the new director of football at Newcastle United, according to Football Insider.
They report that there's been a 'breakthrough in talks' this week, stating that we are now putting the 'finishing touches' to the deal and expect to announce the former Chelsea director's arrival at some point during the international break.
This comes after The Telegraph revealed on Monday that the 56-year-old had held talks with NUFC chiefs in Saudi Arabia last week, stating that he had become the leading contender for the role.
The piece also claimed that Emenalo was a 'big fan' of Eddie Howe and made this clear during discussions - a positive sign now the ex-Bournemouth boss has officially been named our new head coach.
Here's a snippet from Football Insider's latest exclusive, which claims the Nigerian's arrival is 'imminent' and could even be finalised this week:
Newcastle United are set to appoint Michael Emenalo as their director of football after a breakthrough in talks, Football Insider understands.
The Premier League club are putting the finishing touches to a deal with the former Nigeria international after negotiations took place with the new owners in Saudia Arabia.
A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that an agreement is in place with Emenalo, 56, and it is expected he will be announced as the club’s director of football during the international break.
The imminent arrival of Emenalo comes after Newcastle appointed Eddie Howe as their new manager on Monday.
Emenalo would be a huge coup for the club given the great work he did during his 10 years at Chelsea.
Not only did he oversee the hiring of several top managers, help deliver a host of trophies and revolutionise the club's Academy, he brought the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard and Mo Salah to England.
Let's hope this is true, as his appointment would be a brilliant one.
