Howe hits nail on the head when asked about January transfer plans – “It’s exciting, but…”

Eddie Howe has hit the nail on the head when quizzed about potential January arrivals at Newcastle United.

He accepts it’s “exciting” to consider who we could attract now we’re backed by considerable wealth, but warns fans – and his players – that signings won’t be relevant come the new year if we can’t pick up results between now and then.

It’s easy to look at our Saudi billions and believe we’ll buy our way to safety if we have to in January, yet safety could be out of our reach by then if we don’t start winning over the next six weeks.

Howe also insists that January windows are always “unpredictable” and hard to plan for, stating that players who look set to be available are sometimes taken off the market – highlighting the need to get the best out of the current crop above all else.

Here’s what he had to say when asked about potential arrivals in the new year:

This is bang on from Howe.

It’s easy to get excited about future signings, yet Howe’s ability to keep us in the Premier League will be defined by his ability to get the best out of the current group.

It’s good to see he’s fully focused on doing exactly that before he is backed in the transfer window.
