Newcastle offered the chance to sign long term target at bargain fee in January – Report

According to new reports, Newcastle United have been told they can sign Jesse Lingard for just £10m in January.

This comes from the Northern Echo, who claim that Manchester United have made it known that the attacking midfielder will be available at a cut-price fee in the new year.

Lingard turns 29 next month and is about to enter the final six months of his current deal at Old Trafford – meaning they risk losing him on a free next summer if he isn’t sold in January.

The report states that Amanda Staveley’s advisors have recommended loan signings and players nearing the end of their current deals, with the new owners reluctant to ‘spend extravagantly’ in a window that’s notorious for inflated fees.

It’s believed we’ll face competition from a host of Premier League clubs for his signature, however the promise of regular first-team football could work in our favour.

This could be key considering Gareth Southgate has told Lingard that he needs to be playing regularly if he’s to force his way back into his England plans ahead of next year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Based on the immediate impact he had at West Ham midway through the 2020/21 season, a January move for Lingard could help boost our survival hopes, giving us a Premier League proven player with a real point to prove.

  1. Lingard would be a good signing to get some of our other players playing their proper positions. He can play as an 8/10 meaning ASM can go back to the wing. I dont like him in a free role or as a 10. I think it gets too congested and the opposition just put 3 men on him. They do that anyway but playing 10 yards farther up the pitch, the return of Willock and wingers played as wingers would help ASM no end.

So it would be ASM on one wing and Fraser/Murphy on the other.

I am not ready to give up on Miggy and hope Eddie can get him going. For now though, I think I would bench him if we get Lingard. I think Bruce has confused the hell out of the lad so he needs to get his head back together. Bruce was playing Miggy as an extra defender in the 8-0-2 system FFS. He was also asked to bring the ball out on his own and beat 2 players, just like ASM was. If the opposition knows what you are going to do before you do it, then it is a recioe for disaster unless your name is Leonel Messi.

  2. Would settle for Lingard at that price plus Tarkoski for a small fee Top players run their contracts down for a big signing on fee which will be more than the transfer fee the other 30 as stated should go on a proven striker
