“It was close with Newcastle” – Left-back claims he nearly signed for Steve Bruce over summer

Danish international Kristian Pedersen has revealed that he came close to joining Newcastle United over the summer.

The 6ft 2′ Birmingham City defender admits that he received a call from Steve Bruce, saying he ‘really wanted’ to bring him to Tyneside.

He claims a deal was ‘close’ to going through at one stage, however he ended up staying put with the Championship club, having played 13 times already this season.

Here’s what Pedersen told bold.dk:

“It was close with Newcastle in the summer.

The club got a call from Steve Bruce, who is now fired.

He said he really wanted me, but it didn’t work out in the end, because there were some things that had to succeed before the ends could meet,”

“Of course, it’s too bad it didn’t happen, but there’s nothing to be done about it.

It would have been a really good opportunity for me, but yes, it did not happen, and now they have got new owners and have got other muscles to play with, so I do not know exactly how it is anymore,”

The 27-year-old can play at left-back, left midfield or centre-back and has been one of the Blues’ star performers since he arrived from Germany in 2018.

With new owners in place, Steve Bruce replaced and a reported £50m available to spend in January, it seems this ship has sailed for the big Dane!

The guy simply hasn’t the experience or skillset to be where he is – he’s blagged the position after Sheppard left – for heaven sake he was employed by Sheppard to carry his bags!!!

We need a FULL clear out of staff – as following their advice is turning the new owners into a Global laughing stock
