According to reports in France, Newcastle United are considering a January move for Ligue 1 midfielder Seko Fofana.
Foot Mercato claim that we have been watching him closely over the past few months, with news of our interest coming two years after we were first linked with a move for the 26-year-old midfielder.
Fofana – described as ‘one of the best midfielders in France’ in the piece itself – has been the heartbeat of a Lens side who’ve emerged as the surprise package in France this season.
They currently sit 2nd in the table, behind only PSG, and are said to be highly reluctant to sell their captain halfway through the season.
As a result, the report insists it would take a big offer to prise him away in January, with ourselves, AC Milan, Atlanta and Marseille all said to be interested.
Fofana is actually a former Manchester City youth player who’s also had a brief spell at Fulham.
Since then, the Ivory Coast international has spent the majority of his career in Italy with Udinese, before sealing a £7.5m move to Lens last August.
